sanaya was shot dead by police while his brother nineteen year old and i have remained at large and their family briefly lived in the north caucuses more than a decade ago this is what's happening in the boston area right now where the intense a manhunt is underway and could take several hours alive to our correspondent now granted she can in washington for the latest gana want to more do we know this hour about the identities of the suspects. well come on the man who is now being chased as we speak was identified as joe carter i have a nineteen year old who is apparently of chechen origin we don't know if his a russian citizen at this point authorities tell journalists that they've been the family has been in the u.s. for around ten years he apparently actually there they don't specify about the family they mean these two men the two brothers he for him for the last ten years
9:01 am
they're saying they've been here in the u.s. he apparently attended school in russia dagestan in the republic of dagestan eleven years ago we reached out to that school and they told us that the young man spent there is spent there a year and the family arrived there from kara just done in two thousand and one and authorities have told the media again that. the family arrived in the u.s. authorities here federal. told the media that the family. that those individuals were was in two thousand and three we i believe we have. we can we can play our conversation with. the school with someone from that school in dagestan we reached out to. involved in the first grade and after just
9:02 am
a year he left the school and his family is from kurdistan they were full of children in the family this is and to drop in two thousand one hundred the school and in two thousand and two they left for the u.s. to. and again authorities here are telling reporters that they've apparently been here in the states for the last ten years or so so it's all very sketchy at this point we're going to get more details the suspect who was killed earlier tonight is reported to be his twenty six year old brother. both brothers were apparently very much into martial arts we we've seen we actually found a page on you tube put the pages for us this sardar of who has been killed that we're in a gunfight with the police in a standoff with attorneys and apparently. he was very much.
9:03 am
very much interested in religious content and also he has videos. that are titled terrorists that they've been the lead at some of those videos. and whether or not these individuals where it were acting alone or whether or not they they were part of a larger terrorist network that we don't know whether or not they had ties with russian terrorists we also it is just too early to tell but we do know that the south of russia has seen many terrorist attacks over the years and we just got a just to save in a report here coming in saying that the russians on these big juicy be saying that the parents of the two suspects are actually in russia now i just want to go to move on to this how is the manhunt to progressing right now. well they're chasing joe hart soraya for as we speak there is
9:04 am
a lot of police activity and the live shots that we see on t.v. here helicopters we've heard gunshots they've surrounded a whole me in watertown massachusetts and this was this is a five day manhunt a massive manhunt boston is on lockdown at the moment public transportation to track down in boston no trains in and out of boston. buses subway all has been shut down the police strongly advise people in the area where they shot and killed the first suspect and where they surrounded this this home where they are the area where they believe the second suspect this one thousand girls. might be at the moment. to be very cautious their advice being the residents there to be very cautious to stay indoors lock their doors they're now sweeping the neighborhood trying to find. the suspect that. the
9:05 am
suspect there so they're going from door to door we've heard gunshots we don't know if. if he if and when. this suspect will be arrested guy and it is you can in washington just giving us the latest update the caucuses the connection to the boston blast is an unexpected turn of events with large parts of the city sealed off us police search for that last suspect let's get more about the connection no with our g.'s alexy yet assessed let's see what is how did these suspects end up in the u.s. in the first place well that was a very crazy trail they had we know about one of them and of course it's not confirmed that he was born in china then moved to kurdistan which is in central asia then moved to the russian caucasus for a year or two and then and up in the united states so the biggest question here is whether these two suspects had actually any connection with rough. with russia northern caucuses with organizations operating there or any organizations operating
9:06 am
abroad of course that will be determined by the investigators in the united states but such immigration is not something completely uncommon because when we had the military operation in the chechen republic. decade ago almost a decade ago. there were many people immigrating from there you could not find chechens in europe in france in england in the united states basically everywhere some of them got political refugee status some of them towards illegally in turkey that there are some chechens living in turkey illegally some of these people were leaving their home republics in search for a better life for a peaceful life some of them had strong ties in affiliation with terrorist organizations and they will leave when they understood that the military operation is coming to an end and they have no longer any need any actual purpose to remain on the russian soil so that actually could be some form of militants for more terrorists in the united states but it seems likely since very unlikely rather that
9:07 am
this is not the case of these two young men because when the military operation was actually happening in russia's north caucuses they were probably eight or nine years old so it's hard to imagine that they were fighting on the side of the chechen terrorists back then i guess then the one question that everybody wants to including the victims' families and to the investigators is what in fact did drill drugs and the two suspects to commit such an act well it's too early to say and to early to speculate on that hopefully investigators will will clear up will clear us up on that but clearly given the situation with islamic terrorists worldwide given the videos which both of these men posted on their social networking websites and also they were said to be very religious boys the so exactly are we seeing any play of that with in the motives behind this could be i mean in the russian north caucuses there are some fundamental. i mean groups in republic of dagestan we still
9:08 am
have terrorist cells operating we still have explosions they're not in daily basis of course but still happens from time to time so the religious aspect here is quite strong with the two young men could actually be influenced easily by someone they know in russia by someone they know in turkey by some members of the church and diaspora across the planet those i mean this part of the diaspora which used to fight alongside church of terrorists in the realtor gratian i mean they did move all the way china now down to the us in two thousand and two so anything could have only happen absolutely anything well wait and see and get official updates on that of course they ready once you know what the motive is then surely we'll find out soon sooner than later right alexia rushes cuba in the studio with me just giving us just an update and a clear view of what could be behind the two suspects and where they come from not of the identities of the suspects were revealed chechen leader ramzan kadyrov responded by saying terrorism has no nationality he said that the two brothers lost
9:09 am
all connection to chechnya long ago when they left for america do all of us strongly condemn the boston marathon bombings are saying the chechen people have been greatly saddened by those twin blasts that killed three people and injured over one hundred and seventy he added that no act of terror can be justified. by let's get more on the story from eric draitser political analyst from stop imperialism dot com he joins us live from new york right now how do you assess the levels of homegrown terrorism in the u.s. right now. well that's difficult to say because of course homegrown terrorism is a term that is used by law enforcement law enforcement that we know twist these narratives for their own political agendas remember that this story has changed dramatically over the last few hours i mean going back to three o'clock in the morning when i was watching the live footage of the shootout in watertown to when i
9:10 am
woke up this morning the entire narrative has changed and the connection with chechnya and dagestan is particularly interesting remember that we have very deep connections in the u.s. intelligence establishment to some of these organizations. having used that as a base of destabilization against russia so when we're talking about terrorist networks operating out of that region of the caucasus and then you're going to make a connection to a terrorist action in the united states that raises very serious questions about who these people are who they are connected to and what the agenda behind this war was up to all the efforts of the past decade why is it so difficult to stop homegrown terror i mean america went to other countries just to try to do exactly that but it seems to be coming back they'd starting it's a rude way it is right now. well the again the the issue of homegrown terror i think is is somewhat of a misnomer because homegrown terror implies that it is individuals who are inside
9:11 am
of the country organizing this but it does not necessarily mean that there are people at higher levels who are involved with this remember that the the attacks of nine hundred ninety three on the world trade center were directly implicated with the f.b.i. we have course know that many other incidents of terrorism and so-called homegrown terrorism raise very serious questions about the role of so-called law enforcement in all of this and again we've seen the f.b.i. taking over the investigation we've seen the f.b.i. systematically removing from the narrative the pictures of. caricom tractors in boston essentially relegating anyone who asks those questions to the dustbin and this of course raises the most important question of all what exactly is being hidden from the pub. eric draitser they just giving us a his analysis i do a political analyst talking to us i live from new york. a summary of what we know
9:12 am
in the boston manhunt of so far a u.s. national security official has confirmed the names of the bombing suspect as twenty six year old the tomlinson i have and nineteen year old. the men are believed to be brothers who spent time in russia's north caucasus region before their family moved to the united states in two thousand and two that is the intense a manhunt continues in a watertown massachusetts where the surviving suspect the elder brother was showed earlier today during a standoff with the police and f.b.i. agents and members of the national guard are involved in the large scale manhunt along with hundreds of police officers doing going door to door searching for the other suspect it's reported that explosives were found at the location where the men were traced to along with a pressure cooker similar to the ones they used in the marathon bombing you're looking at right now live pictures of that area surrounded by the police are
9:13 am
searching and knocking door to door and especially some police units is also on sides and a local residents are being warned to to remain indoors and stay away from the windows. right let's go back now to our studio our correspondent with me our out easily i let's say we heard went to eric draitser said in terms of homegrown terrorism. but one has to was because they did come in this happened within the united states it didn't come outside they didn't come out from where they were students the they lived there for the past two years to one year so how do you how do we how do how do we challenge that how do we actually if you think terrorism is outside but actually it's here where do we where where the where do we need to be looking at to do you know the loopholes because there's a loophole right exactly the way things stand right now these two suspects have very live. connection with russia itself apart from being. of north. look at the
9:14 am
way they travelled from china to. do a very short spell in the russian north caucasus and then to the united states in their like nineteen or twenty something years of their of their life so definitely as it stands if we consider their route through life this more likely to be something influenced by the life in the united states where they spent the last ten years presumably or as it's been reported by the media the same situation i witnessed myself is happening in france at the moment where they have descendents of different muslim countries guys involved in terrorist organizations and. paris is now seriously concerned with homegrown terrorism nobody knows how to fight it exactly locking the border down is not one of the options and it's not going to cure the problem because they already have generations of people living on their soil and there's absolutely no guarantee that these people will not be influenced
9:15 am
by radical islamism by the ideas of of terrorism and everything else that you look at these pictures of the two suspects the young between the ages of nineteen and twenty six or one even got a scholarship to go to cambridge and in message she says one the other but the wrestlers active so one would ask what pushed them to do this maybe millions of reasons you know for instance when i talked to anti-terrorist experts in france they said that the majority of the people turning to radical islam and in a slum ism all happens because of the recession because of the poor economic state because they get fired because they get kicked out of from school or anything else so you're desperate you're alone in the streets you have no money you are an easy target for all such radical groups but in the case of these two suspects we cannot know for sure because their life seems to be pretty ok in terms of what we know so far travelling across the world finding in the united states getting a scholarship with the massachusetts university this is this. not like what we see
9:16 am
in france and in the suburbs sometimes would you say the face of terror is now becoming younger than it is it is indeed i mean if you look at the middle east in terra most of the people exploding themselves for the sake of killing let's say israelis or anywhere else they or the youngsters there between twelve and twenty one which is very young and you know the matter here is that it is much easier to influence the younger people especially when they are in a very difficult situation in their life economically socially education wise or anything else it's very easy to influence them from the point of terrorists from the point of those organizing terrorist cells and causing so much havoc in cities worldwide alexia shift let's just leave it there for now of course where we're still speculating because we're waiting for those official reports that will say where why and how but at the moment the reports that we're getting we're sharing with of us at home as soon as we get them but now i just want to cross over to
9:17 am
journalist paul lashmar he specializes in covering terrorism he joins us now live so the suspects are young one is just nineteen years old what could they have got they had training to carry out these deadly attacks where we both come from church you know that appears to be the case. understand the younger one and only come as recently as a year ago there's a little bit zero if you start looking on the internet these two young men suggest that they were quite a good way to. be around them and also radical in their views on islam. how how is that young people recruited to join terrorist cell from even very young boy in van one thousand and twenty thinks that it is the face of terror changing. well that's an interesting question certainly all the arrests recently suggest that it is teenagers or men in their early twenty's who seem to think they have a much more far browne's they don't have families to worry about in the same way as
9:18 am
older men so yeah it seems that a group in u.k. for men have just been jailed who are all quite young again one of the north caucasus trades in these attacks the tell us about global terrorism what he seems to me that this seems there may be a new strategy here because it's quite clear that the united states has been pretty successful about keeping suspects out all of its territory and what i am looking at here is possibly an example of some kind of reciprocal agreement with these two young men of being persuaded perhaps by people back in chechnya to undertake a terrorism act because they are access is so much greater than reported in the united states and that is in some ways seen as part of the great you know global. radical approach to terrorism which is taking place now the trouble that's existed in the caucasus has been mostly localized want to extremists connected to that
9:19 am
region have to do with the u.s. . well nothing and that's why you make the very difficult to do. you know. the people from church who were involved or affect who have strong from the most fundamentalist beliefs. that they are out to be a home of. the. warning to the islamic revolution so you see is to push. home less a journalist specializing in terrorism is speaking to the live we're talking about the extremism and of course these two suspects from the boston bombing now a summary of what we know in the boston men hunt so far a u.s. national security official has confirmed the names of the bombing suspects as twenty six year old tom. and nineteen year old joe cod sanaya the men are
9:20 am
believed to be brothers who spent time in russia's north caucuses region before their family moved to the united states in two thousand and two that's as the intense manhunt continues in watertown massachusetts for the surviving suspect the elder brother who was shot dead earlier today during a standoff with police he died of his injuries police have said f.b.i. agents and members of the national guard are involved in the large scale manhunt along with hundreds of police officers who are now going door to door searching for the other suspect and it's reported that during a search at his house explosives were found with the men away traced to along with a pressure cooker which is similar to the ones that were used in the marathon bombing a specialist police unit is also on side and local residents in the area are being warned to remain indoors and stay away from their windows such as locals boss the
9:21 am
bostonians also told him not to come out stay away from. when is and to not open your doors and to strange and. ride snell ferez b.-l. is an eyewitness to the manhunt in the wanton town let's find out exactly what he saw he joins us live now for as you know in a west watertown now years saying they add the manhunt how's it going on so far what can you see. yes we were woken up at three in the morning by a reverse nine one one call basically the police call told all the residents to stay put didn't leave the house so looking out of our windows we saw masses of swat teams and police agents scouring all the backyards bush's the parts that the street and we have helicopters actually there's one flying overhead right now and they seem to have isolated one specific area which is literally right across the street
9:22 am
form where we are right now and they think the suspect is right over the wall and they're kind of looking and and they were talking to him with a megaphone. and that's kind of where we are right now so it sounds like if an intense situation is everybody away you are you feeling the tension and what's the situation now we are everybody's tense all the streets with and few mile radius are closed down nobody can leave all the businesses are closed this comes the day after we had a bomb threat courthouse nearby where our son goes to school and obviously a few days before that the actual bombing at the marathon so the need right now in boston and this area is quite tense. did you know him just quickly did you know him no no so you've never laid eyes on both the two suspects that the police are hunting for. the suspect we're hearing they live in cambridge which is
9:23 am
a right turn right next to watertown and i believe what happened overnight is that . they stole a car and they shot a policeman mit in cambridge and the chase let them closer to you know across the border border so to speak into watertown and that's kind of where the situation is right now. for us i just want to ask you with it with everything that's been happening in the past couple of weeks we had the boston bombings and then we just had to the explosion in texas and and all the of the university shootings that happened in the last couple of months it what does it feel like to be living in the united states right now and all of this. i believe everybody's is and send worried and. a lot of shock about how this can happen in a relatively safe place i think but it's nice to see that the community has pulled
9:24 am
together people have really been helping each other out so you know there's been positives and negatives to what's going on right now. and i witnessed from watertown massachusetts where a large scale manhunt is unfolding to find the second suspect to the boston bombings. some politicians in the u.s. congress have seen this week's tragic events as an opportunity to step up their drive to control the internet the cia pay a bill would allow use data to be shared with government agencies getting around privacy laws if made it tough and it's made it through to the senate but president obama still thought to be wary of signing it off artist american producer andrew blake has more. aides for the white house actually said that we will recommend the president veto this legislation for sharing protection act it's come under a lot of criticism by its opponents because they say that it does more than what the authors say it does now the authors of cispa they say that this bill will lead
9:25 am
to businesses private companies google facebook and many internet provider these companies will be encouraged to share information with the federal government that will be used to track down and monitor and curb cyber attacks aimed at the united states computer critics say that it puts too much of americans privacy at risk and that the right safeguards are there people would be set for facing their privacy for a little bit of security when the bill was introduced back in february i believe one of the areas for the second time representative or one of the authors of the bill he said you know we can't have another nine eleven we can't have another terrorist attack it but if we do we will pass any law that needs to happen sure enough another congressman actually got up and said well look what happened in boston these were bombs sure they weren't digital bombs but the next ones will be digital bombs so we need to come together for the sake of national security and do something and that's exactly why a lot of people have problems with this bill because the people who are touting it the people who are writing it are people that don't really understand the cyber
9:26 am
security concerns and there's a lot of concern over who is coming up with this bill who is supporting it and what they actually know about cyber security. incidents that this morning saying that you know boston would be reason enough to pass a cyber security bill is laughable to many people. are you watching our teabag that taxi is next. i reckon cardiologist dr omar. claims that the war in iraq destroyed iraq's environment even worse than dropping the bomb on hiroshima did he see puts to data that the number of press cancer cases has grown in the country from fifteen to thirty times cases of congenital heart disease have become fifteen times more frequent case of leukaemia have increased thirty fold the doctor puts the blame on

the weapons used in the one thousand nine hundred one and two thousand and three invasion of iraq it which nato forces used white phosphorus depleted uranium rounds and other toxic gases and poisonous substances human rights watch and the world health organization have measured radiation levels in iraq and consider many places in iraq even some very far from the fighting to be contaminated naturally radiation is not racist and foreign soldiers in iraq are not immune usa today even published research results that found that depleted uranium was indeed in the lungs and other organs of navy vets who filed for health compensation claims yet you know saddam hussein seemed like a pretty bad guy but there are always ways to get around the confines of a dictatorship but there is no way to escape from radiation it is truly the present so for the invasions of iraq and good for the iraqis well it doesn't seem to be doing too good for their physical health but that's just my opinion.
